Continuing on from the theme about the importance of images and story telling, this month I'm releasing a new downloadable free magazine called Images. The images are of and about Andalusia, so all of you aficionados out there, will enjoy some of the montages, such as this month's cover photo depicting how the inland town of Loja would be like if global warming reverses the history of this planet, and the valley in which the town sits, once more flooded with waters. Also in this months edition: The dog who struck during the general strike, The Marx Brothers and animal Crackers, and the Buddha that finally turned blue. If you have an iPhone you can load it directly into the Beamr app. Or you can view it online here, and even download a copy for yourself. Enjoy the monthly magazine..... For more real and surreal images from Spain, follow the Gazpachomonk on Instagram or Instastory. Yesterday I drove into Granada. Well, to be honest not all the way in. I got as far as Bobadilla where I stopped and filled the van with 89€ worth of logs. Should last a month or two. You see, summer is over. How do you know when it is over? You know when you are tempted to approach the dusty unopened draw that has housed your socks for the last 6 months. You know when you think twice about buying another 5 kilos of tomatoes for the Gazpacho. Hmmm, maybe a warm soup instead? You know when clouds return from their summer vacation and park at the end of the valley for the word to come on down. You know when hear the calling of the log shop from afar. Thats how you know. Whatever you thought of the man, Lorca set the literary world on fire during the 1920's and early 1930's before he was brutally assassinated during the outbreak of the civil war. Had he lived, not only would he be a remarkable 114 years old, but his creative outpourings would have undoubtedly continued to place Spain in the very centre of the worlds theatrical and literary stage. To celebrate his 114t-ish birthday, the Gazpachomonk is releasing this tribute to Freddy Lorca poster - to download and place on your phone wallpaer for the month. Friends of Dalí and Buñuel, Manuel de Falla and a leading light of the Generation of 27, Lorca's efforts to bring Culture to the masses was as important then, as now. Perhaps we may yet see another Baraka...in the meantime read about his untimely ending in the classic research carried out by Ian Gibson in his book...The Assasination of Garcia Lorca. Watch the great short video (3mins) on Lorca's life (best seen full screen) by Rafael Jurado. And should you want more...you could also pick up a copy of Romancero Gitano for a taste of his powerful poetry.
This classic poster was intended to recruit the revolutionary forces of the CNT (Confederacion Nacional de Trabajadores) and the FAI (Federacion Anarquista Iberica) in the republic of Catalunya during the Spanish Civil War. Fontseré became an exile, first in France, then Mexico and finally the US. Finally he returned to Spain in 1973. He worked with Dali, he worked in Hollywood, and, without his consent, with the Gazpachomonk too. "Al meu amic Carles Fontserè"
Well, back from the editor with a list of corrections and changes to make. This is going to take a little longer than I hoped, but it will be worth it.
Most of the images are prepared now for the ebook versions. The first that goes to kindle ar 300dpi, and the second to Smashwords at 96dpi. As an example, here is one of the images to be used on the chapter of local history. It will be linked to another photo taken from the 1930´s and you will be able to see how little has changed over the last 80 years. Im also considering a PDF of the book with more images, as book the other e formats, epub and mobi do not really allow yet for this extent of illustrative work. We shall see. |
